How do I query a final energy bill that continues after my rental ended?

Housing category photographHousing

The final electricity bill ended on the 18th. My tenancy ended on the 7th, and I had handed the keys back that morning. When I called the supplier, they said their account record still showed the later date.

This was an England rental where I held the electricity account directly. I have the agreed tenancy end date, the key-handover email and a dated meter photograph from the 7th. I told the landlord I was leaving but forgot to notify the supplier until the 18th. I don't know yet how much of the disputed bill comes from the closing date, the meter reading or another charge.

The [Citizens Advice moving-home guidance](https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/moving-home-your-energy-supply/moving-home-dealing-with-your-energy-supply/) recommends contacting the supplier and keeping final readings and dates. I did half of that properly and half late.

What should I ask the supplier to review, and what documents should I provide through its normal process? I want the bill checked against the actual handover and account details rather than assume either my late call or my returned keys settles every charge.

Ask which closing date and meter reading were used, and request a breakdown of the disputed period. That will show whether you are challenging eleven days of charges, an estimated reading or something else. Your dated documents give the supplier specific information to review.
