How do I ask my friend to remove my solo from her karaoke video?

Entertainment category photographEntertainment

I sang the chorus with a breadstick as a microphone because the room's second mic wasn't working. By breakfast, that twelve-second section was the opening of my friend's public weekend video.

There were seven of us in a private karaoke room. I saw her recording and waved at the camera. I thought she was making something for our group, like the photos we usually send afterward. I hadn't asked where the video would go.

I messaged, 'Could you take my solo out? I'm happy for the group photo to stay.' She replied that she'd spent two hours editing, the clip was affectionate, and I had waved straight into the lens. She offered to remove my name from the caption. A colleague had already sent me the video with three laughing emojis, which is exactly the audience I hadn't imagined.

I can see why she thought I was joining in. I also want to be able to sing badly with friends without making a public performance of it. What should I say next, and what would a clearer recording agreement look like for another karaoke night?

Try a request that acknowledges the misunderstanding: 'I waved because I thought it was for our group. I should have asked. Please cut the breadstick solo from the public version; removing my name doesn't address what I'm uncomfortable with.' That gives her a specific edit instead of arguing about whether the clip is flattering.

The two hours of editing explain why she's reluctant to redo the opening. They don't answer your concern about colleagues seeing it. Thank her for making the video, but don't let gratitude turn into a promise to be comfortable with every part of it.
