A councillor is taking all the credit for the bridge repair. How should our group respond?

Politics category photographPolitics

The poster says, "I delivered your bridge." The people who spent Saturday clearing the approach are cropped out of the photograph.

Our walking group had been reporting problems with the footbridge for months. A council officer arranged an assessment, volunteers helped prepare the site, and a contractor did the repair. The councillor chased updates too; I'm not trying to erase that part.

At our next meeting, someone wanted a reply calling him an opportunist. Another said his poster was normal politics and we should be pleased the bridge was open. I am pleased. I also think the staff and volunteers deserve an account that includes their work.

Would it be better to publish our own thanks with the roles described, or ask him to change his claim? How do we correct the impression without starting a fight over who can put the biggest name above the bridge?

An account of the work can be more useful than a verdict on his character. Thank the officer, volunteers and contractor for the roles you can establish, and include the councillor's chasing of updates if that's accurate. You don't need to compete with "I delivered" by claiming the group did everything instead.
